For kids, there are few rites of the passage as exciting as falling asleep to the sound of waves crashing on the beach. You and your family will be filled with sunbathing, swimming and sightseeing, followed by watching the sunset or moonrise and a sky full of the star at night... what a great time!
Families bonds will be strengthened while catching waves on the beach, building sandcastles, roasting marshmallows, making shadow animals on tent walls. Whether you are an experienced beach camper or first-time campers looking for experience, it’s wise to be prepared for this important family outdoor activity.
Read below for some tips and tricks of family beach camping to help you as you plan.
PLAN AHEAD
There are many different types of beaches to camp on, from the secluded, rocky coves of northern California to the white sand tropical beaches of Florida. But campgrounds, especially those having great views, fill up quickly. It’s best to book your beach campsite in advance.
BEACH CAMPING ESSENTIALS
No matter hire or purchase, you’ll need at least a good & big enough tent and standard sleeping gear, such as mattresses or sleeping cot, sleeping bags, and pillow. You’ll also need to pack a tarp for below the tent, a lantern that light your night. You can click here to find KingCamp’s high-performance, portable, comfortable camping gears.
DO A TEST
It’s never a bad idea to check your camping gear before you leave home. You can do a practice overnight in your backyard to test gear, troubleshoot any snags or figure out if anything essential is missing.
CHECK THE BEACH FORECAST AND TIDE TIMES
Choosing locations near coastal areas often adds the extra dimension of having to know the tides. Do remember to check for the high tide mark before you set up the tent. And assume the tide will come up another 10 meters, then if you have the bad luck of being around for a king tide, you’ll still be dry.
LIGHT YOUR FIRE AND MAKE DELICIOUS MEALS
As outdoor cooking is so much of the camping experience, so be sure to cook delicious food for your family. Meantime, you need to find out which campsites you can build a fire, and which don’t allow them at any time; you also need to know how to start a fire, and how to put it out properly.
PROTECT OUR ENVIRONMENT
A love for beaches is part of being human, while the protection of the beaches is another important part.
- never throw any type of garbage in your surroundings
- never damage dunes in any way
- try to avoid disturbing animals. This is particularly important when they are reproducing or feeding
- don’t create obstacle courses for animals
- don’t feed the animals
- leave the natural environment as it is
- pick safer personal care products
DO FUNNY BEACH CAMPING ACTIVITIES
There are a handful of easy but funny beach camping activities you can try, such as a ball or Frisbee for playing catch, buckets, and shovels for building sandcastles on beaches, a notebook and colored pencils for starting a nature journal, or mason jars for collecting bugs to study and release. Or you can do some outdoor sports, such as swimming, hiking, star watching, night adventure...
Don’t forget your insect repellent, toilet paper, sunscreen, and games. And then, let’s enjoy the great beach camping.
